How to Keep Your Proposal a Secret
The ring is burning a hole in your pocket. You’ve checked the weather forecast five times in the past hour. You’re ready to ask the question, but one major logistical hurdle keeps you up at night: how do you get a photographer there without her knowing? This is the top question I get from the grooms-to-be I work with. You want those genuine, unfiltered reaction photos, but you don’t want a visible camera to spoil the moment’s intimacy.
The secret lies in my “Tourist Camouflage”
Greece is one of the most photographed places on earth. In Athens or Santorini, seeing someone with a camera is as common as spotting a blue dome. When you arrive at our agreed spot, I’ll be just another tourist, taking photos of the landscape. I blend in while waiting for the magic to begin. Additionally, my gear is minimal, and my attire is casual.

The Decoy & The Signal
I will help you plan a “decoy” reason for being at the location. This is usually a dinner reservation. You can tell your partner, “I found this amazing restaurant, but before we go, let’s go a bit early to enjoy the breathtaking view and catch the sunset.”
This serves two purposes:
- She is dressed up: Everyone wants to look their best for this moment. A “nice dinner” is the perfect excuse for her to wear that dress she loves.
- The timing will be perfect: This naturally places you at the location during the Golden Hour.
Once you are in position, you don’t need to wave at me. We will have a pre-agreed signal—usually, it’s you taking a selfie or pointing at a specific landmark. That is my cue to switch from “tourist” to “your photographer.”
The “Yes” Moment
When you drop to one knee, time seems to stand still. Using my experience, I capture the shock, tears, and embrace from a distance to ensure I respect your personal space. You can enjoy the privacy of this intimate moment while I document your surprise engagement. Your only focus should be on your partner and the incredible moment that is about to unfold.
